Since childhood, martial arts has been a major part of Lin's life. Having been inspired by the 1985 television series "sidekicks" as well as many other martial arts films of the time, Lin's parents decided to enroll him in classes. His martial arts passion would continue on and off for many years to come.
Later, at the age of 17, after seeing the film, "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story", Lin looked into Jeet Kune Do classes. He found a school in Houston, Texas taught by certified instructor Tim Mousel. There he would being training in Jeet Kune Do, but also branched out into Muay-Thai, Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and several other styles that were becoming popular in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Over the next few years he started competing in kickboxing, boxing, submission grappling and various martial arts competitions. In 1997, combining his different skills, he entered his first "Vale-Tudo" (bare-knuckled) event. He won this competition and continued on a long string of successes.
Lin currently holds an accumulative mixed martial arts record of 1631.
